RICO THE PAN MAN
In the 80's, Guitarist Rick Howard toured extensively in the Carribean. The culture and sounds he experienced there planted the seeds that have influenced his music today.
Rick delved into researching the music of the islands and proceeded to learn the Steel Pan, better known as the Steel Drum.
Rick Howard has recorded rhythm tracks of guitar, bass, drums, percussion and pan that accompany his live melodies at restaurants and private functions.
His repertoire includes popular songs in the styles of Calypso, Reggae, Soca and Latin. Some examples are Harry Belafonte's "Jamaica Farewell", "Jump In The Line" and "Matilda", Bob Marley's "Stir It Up" and "No Woman No Cry", "Red Red Wine", "Margaritaville", "Hot Hot Hot". "Under The Boardwalk", and many more.
Another trademark of Rico The Pan Man is to play non-tropical songs in a tropical style. For example, The Beatles "Hey Jude" reggae style and Madonna's "La Isla Bonita" or Santana's "Black Magic Woman" in a Soca style.
Rico The Pan Man is listener friendly, providing low volume Carribean music and a tropical feel for patrons enjoying a meal and cocktails, especially outdoors by the water.
Customers are delighted and fascinated by the musical ambience that the steel pan adds to their dining experience.
If requested, Rick can do a full gig mixing musical styles, singing and switching off between Guitar and Steel Pan.
